Study Finds Mobile Phones More Detrimental To TV Ad Viewing Than DVRs

Are you a fan of television? A big, big fan of television? If so, we have to ask: when is the last time you watched a full commercial? For years now, media companies have been running around with great concern that viewers were using DVRs to simply bypass commercials, making those pricey advertisements that much less valuable. But is the DVR the real problem? That's a question addressed by a new survey cited in Ad Age, and the results may shock you.

The Witcher 2 patch 1.1 removes DRM, boosts framerate

CD Projekt has released the first patch for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings today, delivering new content and fixing game-breaking performance issues. According to various user reports, the DRM mechanism that ships with retail versions of the game drastically reduces frame rates and loading times. One user quoted by TorrentFreak claims the SecuROM-riddled copy of Witcher 2 takes 32 seconds longer to launch, 8 seconds longer to save, and runs nearly twice as slow.

Chinese Prisoners Forced to Farm Video Game Currency

According to a report by the Guardian, Chinese prisoners are being forced to slave away at MMORPGs. One such detainee claims he was one of 300 people required to play games such as World of Warcraft in 12-hour shifts. That time was spent generation in-game money which the prison guards sold to other players for real-world currency, earning them as much as $924 per day, according to the Guardian's source. Prisoners wouldn't receive any of that money and failing to comply resulted in punishment.

Flickr to keep photos for 90 days after you delete your account

Yahoo's Flickr has implemented a change to its policy on deleted accounts. The photo sharing website will now keep photos and associated content for 90 days before erasing them for good. When you upload a photo, Flickr creates multiple copies of it, along with any data on tags, groups or sets you specified on upload, stored on multiple machines in multiple locations across the US. Previously, if you or the company decided to delete your account, Flickr deleted your photos immediately, making the decision to close an account almost irreversible.
